Market data API pricing compared
Market data prices are hard to compare because the providers sell different units: history depth, requests per minute, credits, gigabytes, or the whole archive at once. This page puts 14 US providers on one table from their own pricing pages, checked on 2026-10-29, then covers the costs that are not on the plan card. MarketParquet is one of the 14.
Five ways data is priced
- Tiers by history and rate. Pay monthly; a higher tier unlocks more years and more requests. Massive, Finnhub, Tiingo, FMP, EODHD and Alpha Vantage work this way.
- Credits. Each call costs credits, and heavy endpoints cost more. Twelve Data meters credits per minute; at EODHD an intraday call counts as 5.
- Usage. Databento charges for the data you pull, from $0.40 per GB, with a $125 credit at signup, or a flat $199/mo Standard plan.
- One-time archives. Buy the history once: FirstRate, Kibot, MarketParquet. Updates cost extra or come with a subscription.
- By quote. Intrinio's datasets, CME DataMine and the enterprise tiers at Massive, Twelve Data and Finnhub. No public price.

Costs that are not on the plan card
- Professional status. Retail prices assume you are a non-professional. Massive's Advanced plan requires it; its plan for firms, Business, is $2,499/mo with exchange fees included. If you trade for an employer or a fund, assume the retail plan is not yours.
- Use restrictions. Finnhub's market-data plans say "personal use", Tiingo's say "internal use only", yfinance is for personal use. Shipping the data in an app needs a different licence.
- Billing period. Finnhub's Basic plan bills quarterly and its Professional plan yearly. Databento's Plus and Unlimited need annual contracts. The monthly figure is not always the cheapest commitment.
- History behind the top tier. Massive keeps 2003-onward history for Advanced ($199/mo); Starter sees five years. The headline price buys the shallow end.
- Download time. At 75 requests a minute and one month of 1-minute bars per request, 10 years of 5,000 symbols is 600,000 requests, more than five days of calls. A month of subscription can run out before the download finishes.
A year of access, side by side
Twelve months of the cheapest plan that includes US 1-minute history, at list price:
Kibot Essentials (once, 1 year of downloads) $990.00
Massive Starter 12 x $29 (5 years deep) $348.00
EODHD EOD+Intraday yearly plan $299.90
Finnhub Basic 4 quarters x 3 x $49.99 $599.88
Alpha Vantage 12 x $49.99 $599.88
FMP Ultimate yearly billing, 12 x $99 $1,188.00
FirstRate Stocks Complete (once) $499.95
MarketParquet Complete Archive (once) $79.00
+ Keep Current, if you want new days: 12 x $15 $180.00
The comparison is not like for like, and that is the point of reading it. The API plans include real-time or delayed quotes, fundamentals or global coverage that a file archive does not. A one-time archive includes the history and, for years, no further bill. Pick the shape first, then the price.
Which kind fits
- Live or delayed quotes in an app: a tiered API (Massive, Finnhub, Twelve Data, Alpaca). The rate limit matters more than history depth.
- Fundamentals with prices: FMP, EODHD, Intrinio or Finnhub.
- Exchange-grade tick or order-book data: Databento, priced by usage.
- Backtests over years of bars: a one-time archive, or one month of an API plan with flat files, if the licence lets you keep the data.
